Welcome to Isshin Dotai Aikido

We practice a traditional style of Aikido based at the Multi-Faith Centre on Derby University Campus in the East Midlands. We welcome everyone from beginners to experienced people in Aikido. Our classes are every Thursday from 19:30pm to 21:30pm and Sunday 13:00pm - 15:00pm. For more information please click the 'Classes' section.

My name is Barry Gibson, 5th Dan. I am the Sensei and Chief Instructor here at Isshin Dotai Aikido (Meaning:  Of one heart and mind, one and the same, to become one with, act with one heart and mind). I have studied Aikido since 1992 and during that time I have met and trained with many people from all walks of life, including making some great friends along the way.

My goal in my Aikido study is to share and pass on all the knowledge that has been passed on to me, by in my opinion some of the best Aikidoka in the world, (these people are mentioned in the Lineage section of this site).

In ‘O’ sensei’s words “Aikido Is For Everyone!”

I would like to thank John Shields 5th Dan, for his hard work in researching content for this site, and also James Taylor for putting it all together,  without whom this site would not have been possible.
